How to Streamline Your Driver’s License Renewal

Before heading to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to renew your driver’s license, it’s important to complete these essential steps beforehand. By doing so, you can significantly streamline the entire process, saving valuable time during your visit. These steps can easily be completed from the comfort of your home using your PC, laptop, or mobile device. This proactive approach not only makes your experience at the LTO office more efficient but also reduces any potential delays or complications.

Step 1: Create an account in the LTO (LTMS) Portal

Click this link https://portal.lto.gov.ph/ and supply the necessary information, and make sure that all details are correct.

Step 2: Make sure that you have access to the email address that you are going to use.

This is important, so that if you happen to forget the password of your account, you can still retrieve it using the email address.

Step 3: Undergo the Driver’s License Renewal Course

After you have successfully created your account, the next step is to undergo the Driver’s license renewal course. These lessons are important refresher for all drivers. This is composed of several video lessons and downloadable learning materials. You can jump directly to the examination, but it is highly encouraged to view the lessons as they will help you in passing the exam.

You can choose the either the audio visual and the downloadable materials.

Under the Audio Visual, you can choose either the Non-Professional CDE course or the Professional CDE course. Make sure to take notes, because the assessment is coming from these lessons.

After finishing the lessons, you can now take the examination.

The examination is composed of 25 questions, and you need to make 20 or 80% for you to pass. You will see this window if successfully passed the exam.

Make sure to have this printed and bring it with you during the renewal.

Step 4: Before proceeding to any LTO Office, you first need to check for any unsettled violations.

With any outstanding violation, you cannot renew your license.

Step 5:You can now proceed to any LTO office, make sure you have the flowing:

  • Old driver’s license
  • Photocopy of the Old driver’s license
  • Printout of your online validation exam
  • Ballpen
  • Your log in credentials for your portal account. (It would also be better to have it open in your mobile phone)
  • Mobile phone or tablet with data
  • Upon proceeding at the LTO, they would direct you to take the medical exam, where application form will also be handed over to you. The medical exam is simply composed of a medical interview, weight, height, blood pressure test and a Snellen eye chart test.

  • They would direct you to their IT department for confirmation of your LTMS account. They would need to see your account open in your mobile phone, or at least your log in credentials. This is also where they would need a copy of your driver’s license and a printout of the online validation exam.
  • Next step is biometrics, where they would take your photo and finger print.
  • Next step is payment.
  • After that, if a card is available, you can have it immediately, if not you will be given a printout and contact details for follow up for the release of the card.

You would also be able to access the documents on the portal.

It is important to note that even if I have a 10-year license, I still need to go back to LTO for my medical exam on the 4th year (2027) and on the 7th year (2030), since the license was renewed in 2023. You can see the details of medical exam schedule on the official receipt.

Medical: Php 600.00

Photocopy license: Php 5.00

Printout of online validation exam: Php 10.00

Renewal fee: Php 585.00

Total: Php 1200.00
